LocoRoco Cocoreccho

I bought LocoRoco Cocoreccho (the ps3 sequel to the very popular LocoRoco, for the Playstation Portable) last Thursday, when it came out on the Playstation Store. I have been playing it during almost all of my free time since then. It’s just that fun.

When I originally heard about it (in rumor form), I was extremely excited, since LocoRoco is so damn fun. You use the shoulder buttons on the PSP to tilt the whole world, and roll the LocoRoco’s along, picking up more as you go. Great gameplay, and on the PS3 it would be even more fun, since you could use the SIXAXIS motion sensors to tilt the world instead of buttons.

Then I found out that the game would be more of a screensaver than a game. I had really no idea what this meant, and ultimately it’s total bull. This is a real game, not a screensaver. But I also found out that the feature I was so excited about, the motion-controlled world tilting, was not actually a part of the game. Instead, you control a butterfly (using the joysticks), whom the LocoRoco’s follow. The SIXAXIS sensors are used, but just for tilting ramps, spinning wheels, pulling objects, and otherwise manipulating the scenery. A bit disappointing, but after actually playing the game, it is still insanely fun and addicting.

New iPods!

Apple announced the 6th gen iPod today, as well as the 3rd gen nano. The 6th gen iPod is actually 2 different things, the iPod Classic (almost identical to the 5th gen, except with up to 160gb of storage) and the way cooler iPod touch, which is like an iPhone without the phone part. It even has WiFi for downloading songs and surfing the net and stuff. Über. The 3rd gen nano is much wider than the 2nd gen, and has video capabilities. It’s also really really thin.

Harry Potter 7 Released

Well, the seventh and final installment of the Harry Potter series is officially out. I’ve read it, took me maybe 7 hours. 759 pages, all very dark (well, maybe not the last 10 or so…), and very intriguing.

Yes, I was at the midnight madness gathering at Barnes & Noble. Yes, I had my computer. No, I couldn’t connect to the internet, so no, I had no live coverage for you. Sorry. πŸ™

However, I did take this video while I was there (Yes, that’s me in a wizard hat :P):

Does anyone know who the dude with the video camera who briefly interviewed me is? If he’s some internet entity, I’d like to know πŸ™‚

Oh and just because I said I would in the video, Matt’s blog can be found here (caution though, the bastard put a list of everyone who dies in the book on the front page).

Transformers Released (a while ago)

I saw Transformers back on Monday, it really came out the 4th of July though.

I’ll summarize my review:

IT KICKED SO MUCH ASS.

Ok now in-depth: It really did a great job maturing the beloved Transformers franchise, much better than TMNT did with that series. The Autobots were very well-made, though the Decepticons seemed a bit forced, their gathering scene kinda seemed like an excuse to introduce them all at the same time, and not have to develop them at all. Just a side-note: were Bonecrusher and Devastator in the original series? I don’t remember them…

There was one classic line I remember from the movie, Megatron says “You fail me yet again, Starscream.” How classic is that? And the (very) thinly veiled “more than meets the eye” lines? Clever. Very clever.

The action was good, the character development was good, Megan Fox was actually a pretty (gorgeous πŸ˜› ) good choice for Michaela, since they made her more 3D than I thought they would.

One thing though. At the end of the movie, when Optimus is standing over the dying Megatron, one of the two says something along the lines of “I’m sorry, brother.” Did I imagine this? Are the two of them brothers?

Harry Potter 5 Released

The fifth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, opened last night, and I saw it today. The movie was very good, much better than the fourth though not quite as good as the third, I’d say. The director did a very good job cramming the longest book in the series (so far) into a little over 2 hours, whereas the fourth movie seemed to skip around way too much.

The movie was very dark, Harry pulled off an even more realistic emo than Peter Parker did in Spiderman 3. Professor Umbridge was amazingly well-casted, she really was a character you love to hate. My only beefs with the movie are that the Weasly brothers did a lot more in the book when they dropped out of school than just some fancy pyrotechnics. They had swamps in the halls and other things that lasted days, and also Cho Cheng was horribly cast. She’s supposed to be stunningly beautiful, I thought. Oh well. Luna Lovegood was very well done, and Dumbledore as well. Speaking of Dumby, I made a t-shirt for the movie premier:

Tee hee. The back lists such spoilers as “She kills Bill”, “42”, “He’s Luke’s dad”, “Rosebud is the name of his sled”, and “redrum is just murder reversed”. Yay for ironic spoilers πŸ™‚

iPhone is out, world still standing

So the iPhone is officially out. People out there have one. People out there have 2, but that’s the most you’re allowed to buy, so yeah. The “first” unboxing video is this:

Cool stuff. Wirelessinfo.com, apparently. Yeah, I’m ΓΌber-jealous. And I’m on the Cape now, so I don’t even get to see one of these suckers up close until the 9th. Goddamn. I wonder if there’s a Cingular AT&T store around here somewhere…

iDay (Guess which phone comes out today?)

So yeah, in about an hour (here on the East Coast, at least…it’s being released at 6 PM local time) the iPhone will be unleashed upon the masses. Reports of what the lines are like are somewhat disappointing, the longest being The Cube in New York at about 200 people (The Cube is the 5th Ave. Apple store). There’s some buzz about who’s in line in different cities, for instance the Mayor of Philadelphia is waiting in line, fully decked in his rain poncho and a fold-out chair. The Woz is #1 in line wherever he is, and apparently there’s a troupe of circus people with a mini golf rig in line in San Fransisco (No, the prize is not an iPhone).

iTunes 7.3 was released earlier today, adding iPhone support, since it’ll be managed like an iPod…I took the liberty of constructing a paper iPhone which I think does justice to the real thing:
iPhone

No, I’m not buying an iPhone, I can’t pull off $599 at the moment. Plus the data plan, and I’m completely screwed over. Oh well. I did take the liberty of laughing at each Sprint and Verizon store as I walked past them today to check out the line at our AT&T store. There was actually a little 5 person line outside it! πŸ˜€ Made me feel so cool.

Ocean's 13

I saw Ocean’s 13 today (it was released yesterday), the third in the Ocean’s trilogy about a group of 11 men (initially, one more is added in each movie, hence Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, Ocean’s 13) who are criminals of the highest calibur, con men. They rig casinos in their favor, steal from the rich, all that good stuff.

Anyway, this one was pretty good. I hardly remember the first two, but this one was good. Good plot, nice jokes, I could’ve used a little more planning in there, or some explanation of how they got their hands on the Chunnel digging machines (both of them, used to simulate an earthquake in their latest target’s hotel/casino), but overall it was a fun ride.

My favorite part was (I’ll try to be vague here, it’s near the end) when the 13 fly away with a whole class case full of diamonds, with the case intact hanging from a helicopter, and the target is so stunned he just stares dumbfounded and murmurs “my diamonds…”

Pirates of the Carribean 3 Released

So yesterday (actually, the first shows were on Thursday at 8pm, but it was advertised as Friday), Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End (which I’m going to call PotC3) was released. I saw it at 4pm yesterday, at Fenway 13 (for those of you who don’t know, Fenway 13 is one of the largest screens in Boston. Awesome. Fun fact: the Fenway cinema was sold to Regal by AMC, and now the prices are crazy high. The sale was because of anti-trust laws. Who knew?

Anyway, a review. One word: Awesome. There was a ton of action, lots of plot twists, backstabbing (literally and metaphorically), and just the right amount of comic relief (remember that crab-head guy in the second one? Too much. Remember Jar-Jar Binks, C-3PO, and R2-D2 in the new trilogy? Too much. Jack Sparrow hallucinating about copies of himself? Hilarious). My favorite scenes were pretty much the entire Davy Jones’ locker segment, and the ending. I’ve always loved watching crazy people in movies, so the Locker scene with Sparrow was awesome.

There were some low points (Calypso=Same woman but giant? Nope. Fail.), but all in all, ’twas a great movie.

PS: Stick around after the credits, there’s a little thing at the end. Check the 3rd comment on this post for a description.

Spiderman 3 Released

Spiderman 3 was a great movie. One of the most anticipated movies of the year, and it’s only May (reminds me of 1999, 2002, and 2005 and their respective star wars releases). I really loved the action sequences and the sandman discovery scene. They were…magical. And the scenes where Peter Parker is an emo had me laughing and cringing at the same time. He rocks the emo look so well it’s crazy. He should have kept his glasses though, they would have perfected it.

Without giving away too much, let’s just say that some main characters die in the end, and there’s an awesome battle involving basically everyone, though I’m not saying who’s on who’s side. It’s an awesome scene, and Venom is done perfectly. I’d like to see Carnage (not Carthage, Cutter…) in a future movie, but they’ve stated that 3 is the last one. Riiiiiiight.
