Pirates of the Carribean 3 Released

So yesterday (actually, the first shows were on Thursday at 8pm, but it was advertised as Friday), Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End (which I’m going to call PotC3) was released. I saw it at 4pm yesterday, at Fenway 13 (for those of you who don’t know, Fenway 13 is one of the largest screens in Boston. Awesome. Fun fact: the Fenway cinema was sold to Regal by AMC, and now the prices are crazy high. The sale was because of anti-trust laws. Who knew?

Anyway, a review. One word: Awesome. There was a ton of action, lots of plot twists, backstabbing (literally and metaphorically), and just the right amount of comic relief (remember that crab-head guy in the second one? Too much. Remember Jar-Jar Binks, C-3PO, and R2-D2 in the new trilogy? Too much. Jack Sparrow hallucinating about copies of himself? Hilarious). My favorite scenes were pretty much the entire Davy Jones’ locker segment, and the ending. I’ve always loved watching crazy people in movies, so the Locker scene with Sparrow was awesome.

There were some low points (Calypso=Same woman but giant? Nope. Fail.), but all in all, ’twas a great movie.

PS: Stick around after the credits, there’s a little thing at the end. Check the 3rd comment on this post for a description.

  1. The whole freeing Calypso thing seemed to be a massive plot hole. She didn’t really do anything except for create that awesome maelstrom battle sequence. I guess that helped hold off the rest of the British fleet, but I don’t see why they really needed that.

The only thing it was useful for was explaining the crab sequence in the Locker.

    What happens after the credits?

I saw Pirates on Friday. I thought it was pretty good- sweet special effects and stuff, but some of the story lines and stuff were hard to follow, etc. Some parts were funny though, like the hallucinations, etc.
In general, I thought it was pretty good, but too long, and a bit confusing.

And yeah, what happens after the credits? I left before the end of the credits..

  3. Ok since a few people have asked, I shall reveal what happens at the end of the credits.

There is a shot of a young boy (maybe a girl? I think it’s a boy) running through some grass and the words “Ten years later”. Elizabeth Swan walks up next to him as they stand on a cliff overlooking the ocean and the sunset. It shows Elizabeth’s face, and there is a flash of green across it. As the scene ends, the flying dutchman is floating towards the island.

So yeah, not as interesting as it could have been, but it shows us that they do basically live happily ever after.
