New Batman Suit

I posted about the new Batman movie before, Batman Begins. I loved that movie, it’s just so awesome. I watched it twice. Anyway, the sequel, The Dark Knight, is coming out next year, and they’ve already released a picture of the new, updated Bat Suit:

It looks awesome. Shoulderpads, throwable arm blades, turnable head…Something happens to the cape…It’s going to be awesome.

Batman Begins is AWESOME

I just saw Batman Begins for the first time, and it was freakin’ insane. It’s so dark and deep, and full of action….I can’t string thoughts together anymore…

Pirates of the Carribean 3 Released

So yesterday (actually, the first shows were on Thursday at 8pm, but it was advertised as Friday), Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End (which I’m going to call PotC3) was released. I saw it at 4pm yesterday, at Fenway 13 (for those of you who don’t know, Fenway 13 is one of the largest screens in Boston. Awesome. Fun fact: the Fenway cinema was sold to Regal by AMC, and now the prices are crazy high. The sale was because of anti-trust laws. Who knew?

Anyway, a review. One word: Awesome. There was a ton of action, lots of plot twists, backstabbing (literally and metaphorically), and just the right amount of comic relief (remember that crab-head guy in the second one? Too much. Remember Jar-Jar Binks, C-3PO, and R2-D2 in the new trilogy? Too much. Jack Sparrow hallucinating about copies of himself? Hilarious). My favorite scenes were pretty much the entire Davy Jones’ locker segment, and the ending. I’ve always loved watching crazy people in movies, so the Locker scene with Sparrow was awesome.

There were some low points (Calypso=Same woman but giant? Nope. Fail.), but all in all, ’twas a great movie.

PS: Stick around after the credits, there’s a little thing at the end. Check the 3rd comment on this post for a description.

Spiderman 3 Released

Spiderman 3 was a great movie. One of the most anticipated movies of the year, and it’s only May (reminds me of 1999, 2002, and 2005 and their respective star wars releases). I really loved the action sequences and the sandman discovery scene. They were…magical. And the scenes where Peter Parker is an emo had me laughing and cringing at the same time. He rocks the emo look so well it’s crazy. He should have kept his glasses though, they would have perfected it.

Without giving away too much, let’s just say that some main characters die in the end, and there’s an awesome battle involving basically everyone, though I’m not saying who’s on who’s side. It’s an awesome scene, and Venom is done perfectly. I’d like to see Carnage (not Carthage, Cutter…) in a future movie, but they’ve stated that 3 is the last one. Riiiiiiight.

TMNT Released

I went and saw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie today, and was somewhat disappointed. After the awesomeness that was the original live action movies, I was expecting some really good stuff from this CGI epic. However, the humans were very stylized (yeah yeah, it’s going for cartoony not realistic), to an almost ridiculous point. Another thing was the accents of the Foot Clan leader (not Shredder, he dead) and Splinter were very annoying. Not standard, stereotypical, clichΓ© asian accents that we all know and love, but strange accents like a stereotypical accent but then under-pronounced, like the voice actors couldn’t be bothered to do a good job.

On a brighter side, the action sequences were pretty good, especially the Leonardo/Raphael battle scene (sorry if that’s a spoiler, but I’m not telling you the outcome so yeah). The plot moved very fast at the beginning, to an extreme amount, but it’s aimed at already hyperactive kids high on sugar and popcorn (by the way, the theater was filled with a low-level din for the entire film, due to it being packed with little kids).

All in all, it was a good movie. A little lacking visually, and not nearly enough ‘dudes’ ‘cowabungas’ and not a single instance of the famed ninja rap:

Too bad, but still a good movie. It had a rap called ‘shell shock’ which I guess is the replacement for GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

I recently saw The Pick of Destiny with a bunch of friends, and I must say I was actually slightly disappointed. I’m a huge fan of Jack Black and his band Tenacious D, but the movie was just not as good as I had hoped it would be. I really liked the beginning and the rock training, but after they officially form and name the band (I love the ass mark scene) there are very few good parts, the highlights being the shroom scene and the break-in. The duel with Satan was great, and the very end was awesome if you liked the song Tribute, which I did. The drama about their breakup and getting back together seemed like drama for drama’s sake, and didn’t add to the story at all, same with the car chase.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a great movie. It just didn’t accomplish what I expected of it.

Casino Royale Released

I went and saw the new Bond movie today, and despite the fact that it had a new actor as Bond, and payed no attention to some of the classic traditions of the Bond films, it was pretty good.

First of all, it doesn’t start with the revolver barrel-POV-shot like every single other Bond movie does, but it does explain where that actually comes from about 3 minutes into the movie, and then it shows it, so that tradition is partially upheld.

The second tradition smashed is the usage of the Bond Song. You know the one I mean. It’s used twice in the whole movie, at the very beginning and very end. Not cool, man. Not cool. That song needs to be weaved in every time Bond does something kickass.

The third tradition is the Girls. There are 2 girls in the whole movie (average number, yes), but one is a serious relationship (not that I’m promoting objectifying women or anything) and the other dies less than halfway through the movie. Actually, they both…nah, that’s a spoiler! πŸ˜€ But anyway, there’s very little action on the shallow-minded romantic front, which is a main theme of the Bond movies.

I must give them credit for the kick-ass parkour-style chase scene at the beginning. That ruled.

Oh and destroying that AM was not cool, guys. It did not deserve that death…

Mwahahahantis Parable

The Mantis Parable, the short film created by Josh Staub of Cyan Worlds, has finally been released through iTunes. It’s a charming story about a caterpillar and a praying mantis, the caterpillar being trapped in a jar and the mantis laughing at him. Quickly, their places are traded and the Mantis realizes his mistake. It has the amazing quality you can expect from Cyan Worlds, and a good story to go with it (too bad you can only get it in iPod size…).

Josh Staub, the Art Director at Cyan, alerted us to the release via the Uru Obsession forums, and when I responded the following was posted:

Kind words, Mr. Staub…but your job will be mine….
