On Deleting a Comment

I feel a little bad that I just deleted a comment here, but the commenter was being really rude. I would like to think that most people live by the philosophy of “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” but evidently this isn’t true since somebody posted a comment telling me one of my old photoshopped images sucks…

I usually believe in freedom of expression, but this is my site and here I am the master of this domain, which means you really don’t have the freedom to say whatever you want. I reserve the right to delete and edit comments, I’ll just feel guilty afterwards. I just don’t want to turn into a control freak, editing everyone’s comments to fit my liking…

On a lighter note, THIS IS MY 300th POST! Yay!

TMNT Released

I went and saw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie today, and was somewhat disappointed. After the awesomeness that was the original live action movies, I was expecting some really good stuff from this CGI epic. However, the humans were very stylized (yeah yeah, it’s going for cartoony not realistic), to an almost ridiculous point. Another thing was the accents of the Foot Clan leader (not Shredder, he dead) and Splinter were very annoying. Not standard, stereotypical, clichรฉ asian accents that we all know and love, but strange accents like a stereotypical accent but then under-pronounced, like the voice actors couldn’t be bothered to do a good job.

On a brighter side, the action sequences were pretty good, especially the Leonardo/Raphael battle scene (sorry if that’s a spoiler, but I’m not telling you the outcome so yeah). The plot moved very fast at the beginning, to an extreme amount, but it’s aimed at already hyperactive kids high on sugar and popcorn (by the way, the theater was filled with a low-level din for the entire film, due to it being packed with little kids).

All in all, it was a good movie. A little lacking visually, and not nearly enough ‘dudes’ ‘cowabungas’ and not a single instance of the famed ninja rap:

Too bad, but still a good movie. It had a rap called ‘shell shock’ which I guess is the replacement for GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!

Uru For Mac – Released!

Cyan has finally released its Mac client for URU! Hooray! I’m downloading it as I type this, but here are some shots of what I have so far:
the mac updater for uru
The updater

uruicons
The icons on the dock. There are two, the shown updater and one named ‘Myst Online’, the actual name of the app.

So yeah, it’s still updating, but I’m hoping that there’ll only be one icon on the dock when it’s actually running (not updating), I like my dock as uncluttered as possible. But the new icon is mad pretty:
Uru icon
The new รผber shiny icon :3

UPDATE: Not sure why I didn’t do this before, but I realized that anybody interested in this post will probably be interested in running Uru: Complete Chronicles on a Mac as well. Happy Mysting.

Dead Theme

My blog’s theme died for a bit yesterday and today. Should be working again now ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m working some more on zPhoto, trying to get a stained glass filter working… More on that when it happens.

I’ve gotten back into Flash (I got a cheap-o copy of Flash 5 back when it was only 1 version old…), and am currently writing a basic game engine in Actionscript. It’s difficult, but I’ve already made more progress than the last time I tried to do this, where I worked for about a week and I never got jumping working. I just need to tweak it a bit so the guy doesn’t bounce down the slopes, but slides. Throw in some animation, and presto! A basic game. Then I need enemies, bosses, items, netcode, etc. etc. etc. The whole thing was inspired by The Fancy Pants Adventure, a really good flash game where you run around and off ramps and stuff. I’m not aiming for that kind of quality, that game is amazing. Half that quality would be my best work ever.

Newest Member of the Family

I bought a Red 4gb iPod Nano a few days ago, with “It’s a series of tubes!” engraved on the back. I really love it, it is way better than my old shuffle. And it can hold about twice as much music as I actually have, so it’s perfect.

I was bored today (I have strep, so I’m at home sick), and decided to make a dock for my new iPod out of the cardboard box it came in and other various things it came with. You can check it out here:

Credit to this gallery for the idea, I used the exact same method but modded a tiny bit for the nano ๐Ÿ™‚

Birthday Followup (AKA Presents, w00t)

Well, I’m officially a year older. Whee.

I opened most of my presents this morning, and apparently there are a few more coming in the upcoming days. These are the ones I opened today:

  • The “Making Of” books for Sith and Clones (and Phantom is on the way)
  • A 1-Up Track Jacket from ThinkGeek (which was too small and is being exchanged for a larger size, darn it…)
  • A “No, I will not fix your computer” hoodie from ThinkGeek
  • A bag of cool vintage pins for my bag
  • Oh and um…what was that last one…oh yes OVER $230 IN CASH BEEYAW!

So yeah, pretty great birthday other than the injured left hand, which makes it annoyingly difficult to type…Oh well. I’m planning on using the money I got to buy a red iPod nano (4gb, thats way more than I need for my entire music collection), then putting some aside for OS X Leopard, then putting the rest towards my next computer (so I’m ready to upgrade in a year or two). I’m a happy teen today. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, the Uru for Mac client was, in fact, not released this week, as prophesied by Kato. I love hate to say I told ya so, but…

Vista Stuff

Well, now that I have Windows Vista it’s time for a review. So far I like Vista a lot, it’s very shiny and good-looking. Many things are still the same as with XP, and some stuff is left over that doesn’t even do anything (ClearType options are still there, but they do nothing). So far I’ve only used a few programs that are incompatible with Vista. They were the Boot Camp drivers (made for XP, some don’t work that hot in Vista…) and (sadly) Trillian. The first time I ran it, Vista complained that Trilly couldn’t use Aero, so it disabled Aero for the whole system while Trilly is open. Even though I have now set Trilly to run without Aero, Vista still turns the glass effects (which are รผber cool, by the way) off when I launch it. Oh well, I’ll figure it out eventually.

The biggest problem I’ve had so far is (I think) due to the airport card drivers. It doesn’t seem to recognize my wifi at all, since my wifi doesn’t always broadcast its name. In OS X, you just tell it to connect to the name and it does, but in Vista you can only add the network to your list of automatic networks and wait for it to find it. Since it never finds the network, it won’t connect, and since there’s no way to manually connect to a network without a broadcasting name, I’m basically screwed.

Also, I’d like to be able to use my Boot Camp partition through Parallels, so I can try out Coherence and use Trillian in OS X, but I can’t figure out how to use a Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine. Does anyone know how to do this?

Mystery Packages 3 and 4 Part 2

Thanks for that beautiful spoiler, Cutter. Just for that, I’m not linking to you ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyway, I finally got around to making a Tabblo of the unboxing of my two newest toys, a WD Mybook 320gb Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate. They’re very fun so far, I kept the Mybook with its Fat32 formatting, since its only limitation is that it cannot hold files larger than 4gb. It’s cross-platform, which is what I really need. And it’s actually 300gb, but whatever. Thats still plenty.

So anyway, here are the photos.

The Mybook is good, but the capacity LEDs have so much bleed that it’s pretty much impossible to read them. Oh well, there’s only 5gb used on it so they shouldn’t be on at all…And it produces a low hum (it is a hard drive, after all), which is amplified by my desk, unless I lay it on its side. That’s ok though, since it was designed to go horizontally or vertically.
