Uru For Mac – Released!

Cyan has finally released its Mac client for URU! Hooray! I’m downloading it as I type this, but here are some shots of what I have so far:
the mac updater for uru
The updater

uruicons
The icons on the dock. There are two, the shown updater and one named ‘Myst Online’, the actual name of the app.

So yeah, it’s still updating, but I’m hoping that there’ll only be one icon on the dock when it’s actually running (not updating), I like my dock as uncluttered as possible. But the new icon is mad pretty:

The new über shiny icon :3

UPDATE: Not sure why I didn’t do this before, but I realized that anybody interested in this post will probably be interested in running Uru: Complete Chronicles on a Mac as well. Happy Mysting.

Thanks for the link! Just downloaded it today, the “Updating Uru…” seems to be taking forever though.

Well, they are being assholes by giving us a 40mb installer on their website, which THEN downloads 2GB of “Updates”, pfffft. I suppose they don’t want to scare mac users with a 2GB initial download, and rather want people to install it and then sit through an agonizing wait without any kind of information about file size. You can confirm what I am saying (about the 2GB) by right clicking the Myst Online application package, it will keep growing during the “update” and end up at about 2GB.

By the way, this is for people who may be reading this page while they are installing Myst Online on their Macs:

Open up Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder under the Applications folder), and switch to the Network tab. This lets you see the “Data received/sec” which is the speed at which you are downloading from the Internet.

Monitor this value every now and then, because sometimes the updater stops downloading data and (IF YOU AREN’T DOING ANYTHING ELSE ON THE NET OTHER THAN USING THE UPDATER) the rate will be less than 1kb sec. This allows you to see if the updater has crashed. If you are doing anything else on the net such as browsing websites/checking email/chatting/downloading, then this rate will be higher and you won’t be able to detect that the updater has in fact crashed/halted.

The solution when it crashes is to hold down the Option+Control key (or Option+Right Click) and selecting Force Quit — do NOT use the button in the updater that says “Cancel”, it may remove everything that has been downloaded so far (unconfirmed).

Then just restart Myst Online and the updater will seemingly start over from 0, but it will in fact resume where you left off and it just uses a new status bar that covers the REMAINING data to download instead of covering what has previously been downloaded as well.

    I hope this helps!

It is me again, I am back to say that WOW! The agonizing installation was worth it! I am speechless… *goes back to playing Myst Online*

  5. Me says:

    Is it free?

  6. Enzan says:

It seems to have vanished. I don’t suppose you could rehost a copy somewhere?

  7. Zib Redlektab says:

Sorry, buddy, but you’re more than a year late to the party. 😛 http://zibland.com/blog/?p=796

MO:UL shut down back in March of 2008. :<

  8. Enzan says:

They’re releasing it as opensource. Previous question stands~

  9. Zib Redlektab says:

Ah, well, no news on that front. And it has been said that the open source version will not be Mac-compatible, due to licensing issues.
