Firefox Unification: Complete

Firefox UNO complete

That, my friends, is an image of Firefox. I took it about a minute ago. Firefox Unification is now complete, as I figured out how to skin the tab bar. It required a third image, but hey, it looks fricken’ sweet.

I will probably continue modding it, get that active tab more blended, remove that tab bar menu, but it’s completely unified now. 🙂

Leopard Videos

The developers who were at the WWDC received beta copies of OS X Leopard, so they could start developing for it. Some developers were good, and kept it to themselves. Others released screenshots that they weren’t supposed to. Others actually released the OS itself onto the internet.

This guy decided to post some videos of it in action. You can see Spaces, Time Machine, Stacks, the new screensavers (cool stuff), and a lot more.

ACK! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY BLOG!

Wow, I somehow missed my blog’s 2nd Birthday…It was June 19th, so HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, A SERIES OF TUBES!

I just realized (while typing that), that my blog has gone through 3 names since I started it back in ’05: First was Myst Otaku, meaning Myst Fanboy. Otaku is a derogative term for fanboy in Japanese, but I liked how it sounded 🙂 The second was Love, Live, and Linux, a short list of all the good things in the world that are free. I hardly ever use Linux any more, so I decided to change it to A Series of Tubes, which is what it’s stayed as. I wonder what it will be by June 19th 2008?

Plus, holy crap. Has it really been 2 years?! That’s freaky. I’m the only one of my friends who still writes on their original blog (yeah, it’s moved around a lot, but I’ve moved all the posts with me each time, so it’s the same blog in essence). It’s a pretty weird thing to think about. 2 years. Wow.

New Header

I’ve replaced the header here (which was those sepia branches) with a new randomized header. It randomly selects one of five or six images (all of which were taken by me :3) and puts it up there. I think it’s pretty snazzy.

How to Unify Firefox (On Mac)

If you want to have my unified Firefox (as discussed in my previous post):

  • Install GrApple (UNO).
  • Put this file in your Chrome folder (in ~/Library/App Support/Firefox/Profiles/XXXXXX.default/chrome):
  • Place the following files in the chrome folder:
    toolbar.png
    toolbar2.png
  • This should give you a nice unified Firefox 🙂
(Note: Since I haven’t gotten the whole tab bar thing worked out yet, it helps to just disable the tab bar if only one tab is open. This can be done from the prefs for Firefox)

    Modding GrApple (UNO)

I recently became sick of my mods (I knew this would happen), so I disabled ShapeShifter and reverted to default Aqua. This is very refreshing, but I like UNO way too much to disable it. The only thing is that Firefox isn’t unified by UNO (or I don’t think it is, I can’t open UNO any more because it claims it only works with Tiger 4.4 and up, even though I have 4.10…), so I went and looked for a unified theme, and lo and behold, I found GrApple (UNO) (scroll ot the bottom to get it). A theme specifically made to match UNO. However, upon installing it I discovered that it doesn’t really look like the picture, and doesn’t really do a good job unifying Firefox. So I did the fix he suggests, and it still didn’t look great. So I figured out how to haxx it myself.

I went into the chrome folder and looked at the toolbar.gif file it had told me to put there:

This is not enough of a gradient to blend properly, so what I did was opened a finder window, and took a screenshot of the toolbar:

And this almost completely fixed it. The main window blends until it gets to the bookmarks bar, where it turns a flat gray:

Update: I have now fixed the bookmarks bar to blend as well:

However the Tab Bar now has the same problem…so I don’t know what to do.

Uru Episode 2: A New Light

So the second episode of Uru Live is to begin today. It’s entitled “A New Light”. The description of the episode (from Cyan and Gametap) is as follows:

The next episode, “A New Light, begins in June. In it, Power is shifting and new leaders begin to emerge while those from the past begin to fade. Amidst all the chaos, the Age of Er’Cana is released and Explorers are asked to help feed the darkening lake. Meanwhile, new information is revealed and more begin to fear the coming war. Er’Cana features a vast landscape with hours of unique gameplay that can be played single player or with friends.

Those who played offline Uru way back when should recognize Er’Cana from the Path of the Shell expansion pack. However, it must be different from the offline version we played because its sister age, Ahnonay, is not being released in this episode (or at least, we don’t think so, since it’s not in the released screenshots nor the description). The episode will run for 6-7 days and is supposed to start today.

Best Buy Has Apple Stuff (Well, Kinda)

I visited my local Best Buy yesterday (I saw Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer, Best Buy is just around the corner from the theater), and was surprised to see that they had a beautiful 24″ iMac on display. I of course went over and started playing with it, and noticed an iPod HiFi next to it, apparently acting as the speakers for the iMac. Didn’t know you could do this. The most curious thing was an open iPod box right in front of the HiFi, with naught but the headphones left. I left it alone, and continued playing with the iMac.

An employee quickly came over and cleared away the box, and then asked me “You aren’t going to mess up the display, right?”

Now, what the hell does that mean? I’m using an iMac 24″, minding my own business, and the guy thinks I’m going to break something. I was insulted, so I said “Of course not” and walked away.

Of course, noticing the macbook display made me stop and check them out. Of course, a brand new gen. 3 macbook pro, and two macbooks next to it, one white and one black. So I played around with them as well, noticed that they had had their batteries removed…Bad move with the macbooks, since the power cords are designed to come out easily. Jostle it too much and the computer loses its only source of power, there goes the demo. Anyway, they were very snappy, as is to be expected. The MBP was right next to a hulking monstrosity of a PC laptop, an inch thick with a huge, useless, led-ridden emblem right under the fuzzy trackpad. Eew.

So at that point I was wondering if they had the Mini and Pro on display as well, and then I saw them. Not the Mini and Pro, but the cheap printouts of said computers propped up in plastic photo holders. With pricetags under them. Seriously, it looks like instead of putting one on display, they just googled it and printed out a picture. It wasn’t even photo paper. Just plain letter paper, with cheap ink. I sincerely hope that these are placeholders, not the final displays. It’s depressing to look at them.

So props for the apple displays and selling apple stuff, but minus about a million for lame displays and kleptomaniac employees

    New Batman Suit

I posted about the new Batman movie before, Batman Begins. I loved that movie, it’s just so awesome. I watched it twice. Anyway, the sequel, The Dark Knight, is coming out next year, and they’ve already released a picture of the new, updated Bat Suit:

    (click it to enlarge)

It looks awesome. Shoulderpads, throwable arm blades, turnable head…Something happens to the cape…It’s going to be awesome.
